How a decision support system changes diagnosis in anaesthesia teams
A study of how a prototype CDSS (clinical decision support system) influences diagnostic decisions of anaesthesia teams in simulated operating-room emergencies.
Study
Interdisciplinary, with students of the University of Würzburg and anaesthesia staff of the University Hospital Würzburg. A mixed-methods study with 14 anaesthesia teams in high-fidelity simulations, half of them using the CDSS prototype.
Analysis
Quantitative data on decision-making and workload, combined with qualitative analysis of team communication.
Outcome
The system changed team structure and communication, standardised decision processes and strengthened the role of nursing staff. Published and recognised at ACM CHI (Association for Computing Machinery, Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems).
